A GENTLEMAN'S ADDRESS TO HIS VIOLIN.
Pretty little charming thing,
Raptures flow from ev'ry string;
Mindful of thy lively strains,
Charmer both of nymphs and swains.
Drousy in my lonesome cot,
Welcome, ev'ry sprightly note!
Kindling soft and easy joys,
Mirthful, ev'ry damp destroys.
Partner of my peaceful hours,
Gladdens more than mild amours;
Fleeting though thy pleasures by,
Guiltness they--no stings from thee.
Thou canst sooth each vain desire,
Thou canst virtuous thoughts inspire,
Thou canst make me not repine;
Sure, sweet creature! thou'rt divine.
